Show off Some Sexuality Through Clothing

Item:
Cutaway/ Ripped Clothing

Color:
Black remains classic but any color dress/top paired with your favorite shoes should do the job right!

Inspiration:
Many designers seem to compare music with fashion and most feel inspired at their work when listening or watching music videos. For instance, Lady Gaga and Rihanna never seem to fail when appearing at award shows or filming a video.

Reason/Purpose:
Cutaway trend has been introduced to help embrace the woman's body and show off her curves in a very high fashion level. It is considered sexual or sensual fashion.

Check out these Bebe dresses I found which I think is drop down gorgeous! Check out the prices too ;)

The House of Dior

"What type of clothing did Christian Dior design?"

DRUM ROLL PLEASE!
-
-
-
-
The answer is Couture !

To the few who voted for high fashion I am sorry to inform you but the correct answer to our poll question was couture. As part of the House of Dior, Christian Dior launched the haute couture empire in 1946 which can be described as high fashion and ready to wear garments. Common competitors to the House of Dior include: Chanel, Louis Vuitton, Yves Saint Laurent, Gucci, Versace and Prada.

Fashion lovers all over the world must know the difference between a couture line and high fashion. It is a common mistake most people are not aware of. However, most of Christian Diors collections can be seen on red carpets and award shows. Please keep in mind Christian Dior was the first designer to embrace and recreate woman's clothing back in 1947 when he debut his spring/summer collection and titled it, "The New Look".

Head over to our poll section and vote for your answer to, "What item made Gucci famous worldwide?"

Mixing it Up!

I found this picture of Kim Kardashian, who by the way was also a stylist before her hit TV show Keeping up with the Kardashians. This was her on her way to a meet and greet with fans at a local store in L.A to promote her perfume which you can buy at any Sephora near you or online. I really love this look on her! It's a super classic look, with a hint of edgy-ness that she added with her makeup and the satin black button up top she is wearing. I have done my research and came across great items for less that look very similar to what she is wearing. Check them out! Let me know what you think ;)

Let's Chat for a Bit

As most of you already know this past Friday July the 9th 2010, as a team we attended the first annual Designer's Closet which included inspiring designers such as the sisters from Material World, the young and talented J B and of course the 5 pack collaboration team better known as Beaucoup.

Once the showed ended most guests were allowed backstage for a meet and greet with models and designers. This being our first time meeting most of the designers, we decided to introduce ourselves to them and ask them some questions to post on our blog. Below is our first interview with the girls from Material World, please play close attention to their response when asked about their feedback on how "they" think the show went. Enjoy.

The Wild Call: If you could describe your collection to us what words would you use and why?

Material World: Both my sister and I are very passionate about what we do and how we work together as a team. We don't necessary do this for fun, we create what we believe is funky, out going and classy at the same time. We say this because our collection speaks for itself.

The Wild Call: Now that is has been established that your collection lends towards the edgy side, why the choice in colours?

Material World: We felt the need to use these colours in our line because they spoke to us in a way that many didn't. We knew right away it would fit perfectly into our summer collection.

The Wild Call: What are your thoughts on the show? Were both of you satisfied on how it turned out?

Material World: I mean there is not much we could do now. We feel that a part of it was unorganized and with us being first up the pressure was ten times more than the rest. Some of our models were not dressed on time and we had a lot of models going out twice on the runway which made it hard for our audience to understand our theme and message.

Our next interview was with the man himself, Mr. J B!

The Wild Call: We saw a lot of trousers and crotch seams throughout your collection. Was this something you felt passionate about from the beginning?

J B: Yes, definitely from the beginning I knew I wanted that to be a huge part in my line

The Wild Call: As to our understanding we heard this was your Spring collection, is that correct? If so why the use of mutual colours?

J B: It started off as a Spring collection but I showcased it in the Summer. Most of the pieces are inspired from the beach and cool summer nights. I have always considered it my favorite time of the year and made sure that if I was going to design something for men in the Summer I would make them comfortable and light weight, because I am a man myself.

The Wild Call: Interesting, that's awesome. Now would you say that when you design clothing your actually designing the clothes for yourself? Is this what J B would wear?

J B: Yeah for sure. I love clothing that makes me feel good about myself. When I design I'm designing for myself and if I can't picture myself wearing it than I can't picture another man wearing it either.

Finally our last interview was with our good friend Iris and her team Beaucoup.

The Wild Call: Throughout your collection, we saw a lot of prints and bright colours. Was this something that caught your attention before you started designing your line?

Beaucoup: As a team we decide on the things we want to use. We liked this exact print from the rest because it stood out to us when we were choosing fabrics. It was a decision we made before our collection came about. Something different and unique from what everyone is use to seeing.

The Wild Call: Now, since there is quite a few of you on this together do you ever feel like you disagree and agree on things differently? How does Beaucoup really work?

Beaucoup: There are five of us. Each one of us has a specific job. One does the designing while the other does the PR and networking. Another can be doing the buying of the materials and the other can sew. It is a group effort and in the end we are all friends who like fashion and feel passionate about it.

The Wild Call: Great, okay last question. When we post this on our blog and our viewers get a chance to see it, what do you want them to know about Beaucoup that they might not already know? What else is there to Beaucoup?

Beaucoup: We all work hard and we go at it like stars. We don't give up and we don't plan to either. We just want them to know that our hearts and souls go into our designs. We give it our best! Beaucoup is a classy more modern style that can be worn at a club or on the street.

Overall, this night was an amazing time to share laughs and ideas with most of the designers who were lined up for the show. It was a night filled with great talent and good vibes. The Wild Call had a blast. Thank you to all the deisgner who sat down with us for a quick interview, we highly appreciate it your support. Like Michelle said, all the best to those who never give up on their dreams. As for our readers please make sure you head over to our Gallery and check out all the cool and funky pictures we took that night. Enjoy!

Looking through The Closet

When going through the closet as an individual your task is to let your mind flow and allow yourself to pick and choose pieces to complete an outfit. That is exactly what we did this past Friday night at The Designer’s Closet. As you all may have read on our previous post, the show consisted of young Toronto designers showcasing their summer 2010 collections. The collections ranged from men’s casual wear to women’s casual and formal wear. However, as we all know an outfit is not complete without an accessory to compliment it. Milk and Canvas and Material World, are two teams of inspiring designers who focus their talent on creating unique and edgy accessories. From cat eye sunglasses, to outrageous fruit inspired earrings these two design teams are raising the bar when it comes to accessories. We also had a chance to view collections that were inspired by 50’s such as Shona Peniston. Her collection included red high-waisted trousers, printed rompers, metallic tube dresses and my favourite a floral print scarf which acted as a tube top. To turn things over and focus on casual men’s wear we had 16-year old J.B who by far had the collection which was idolized for day to day wear. The fabric was light and the colours were subtle. Draw strings and crotch hemlines were evident in most of his trousers and shorts. His line is made for that classy but casual, confident but humble man! And last but not least was Beaucoup. Similar to their group, their line focuses on men and women’s apparel. Bold colours and graphic prints such as flowers and polka dots were incorporated into their line. I loved the flashy floral print dress with the shoulder pads giving the dress an 80’s feel. Overall the line reflects the confident, extrovert who encompasses style and pizzazz everywhere they go!
This was a great night filled with amazing people, music and of course fashion! We wish all of the designers best of luck in their future endeavours!

Lovely Gaby with the team of Beaucoup!
